The purpose of formation of this organisation, Maharashtra Mandal, in this prominent city of Chennai, is to celebrate all Hindu Maharashtrian festivals, to provide a common meeting point for Maharashtrian people to conduct various Hindu social and cultural programs, to provide facility of temporary residence at nominal cost for all Maharashtrians travelling to Chennai. This is largely served by a decent guest-house and a two storied hall, sabhagruha, each having a separate stage.

Maharashtra Mandal Chennai is no way connected to The Government of Maharashtra and is run by Maharashtrians living in Chennai.
